    Hi folks
I am new to this site.
Recently my N plate Corsa broke down. After a long
motorway journey at legal speeds the engine suddenly
developed a knock and misfire. There had been no
overheating or lack of oil pressure.
I stopped immediately and got a tow home by the AA

Nos 2 & 3 cylinders aren't firing, but there is an excellent
spark from all the plugs. The knock sounds like it might be
from a big end and is only heard when the engines is revved
to 3,000 rpm approx. There is plenty of oil getting to
    the top of the engine.

I have taken the rocker cover off and the cam & valve
springs are OK - I suspect a blown head gasket or
broken rings + whatever the source of the knocking is.

The car is otherwise in excellent condition, but in view of
its age I suspect it might be best scrapped or sold for
spares. Has anyone any suggestions/advice, please?

    Cheers
    Phil

If the shell is good, you could do a C20XE or LET conversion (if you
wanted a 2.0 litre Corsa). Otherwise, you might be able to get a decent
1.4 engine fairly cheap (from people who have done 2.0 litre
    conversions.

I would go for a blown head gasket between cyls 2 and 3 it does happen from
time to time on these engines.
