Indicator dashboard light

I have a Vauxhall Vectra 1.6 Envoy and a few months. A few months ago
the Indicator light on the dashboard appeared. Sometimes the right
indicator did not flash. Both of the indicators are temperamental. The
ticking is also temperamental - sometimes it click
ok, other times too, slow others times too fast and other times it
doesn't click at all. After trying a few things I replaced the relay
and the indicator worked fine, however the dashboard light is still on.
I can't find a short circuit or anything. Would the ECU hold
information about these faults? Has any body got any ideas why this may
    be the cause?

When I take out the fuse for the indictors light on the dashboard light
    goes off.
When the indicators are on the light stays on, however there is a very
    slight flicker.

    I have changed the stalk.
I have checked all the bulbs - they all work.
I have cleaned the switches and contacts with servisol

The hazards work fine, the dashboard light stays on.

The light only goes off when I lock the car and the interior light goes
out. It also goes off when I don't touch anything in the car for
quite a long time - when the interior light goes out.

    Can anyone help?

some vectras have an electronic unit built in to the relay box which works
the indicators as well as a flasher relay. Vauxhall only used this idea for
a short time and I do not remember exactly when but this unit can be
replaced and there is a Vauxhall technical bulletin about it so find a
friendly dealer to check the bulletin and sell you a new unit (they are not
    too hard to fit).
