Seven days after the 3yr warranty expired, one of the cable inside the
passenger seat broke (the one that allows the seat to tilt forward) then 6
days after that, the drivers seat went as well!! As we have two young
children (and no rear doors) this caused a right problem.
There are two cables in the seat which allow it to tilt forward, both of
these cable are crimped together then attached to the release lever. This is
where one of the cable parted from.
So two door Astra owners, beware, if you tilt your seats frequently (letting
the rear passengers in and out) you might be about to experience the same
    problem.

Sorry to hear of your problem, but to be honest I wouldn't buy
a two door car of any make under any circumstances. I learned
that lesson with a two door Ford Cortina, in that the pins in the door
hinges are not strong enough to support the doors in a two door
model. The doors being larger and heavier, they wear out very
quickly and snap at the worsed possible moment without warning.
In my case, miles away from home.

    PS,
that car also had plastic threads on the gearstick which
stripped very easily and one day I ended up sitting at the
traffic lights with a gearstick in my hand, thinking what do I do
    now. (the joys of motoring.)

Visit your local dealer and ask them to contact customer care as regards
    Vauxhall paying for the repairs.
If you haven't done loads of miles and you have got full service history you
should get a result - costs nothing to ask.
These cables are known to give trouble and Vauxhall did issue a recall on
them if memory serves me right.

  4. Writing to Vauxhall customer care can work wonders in this type of case, if
you simply explain the problem they can be very helpful, and I have had
them, in the past, authorise a dealer to do the work.

  5. I was about to suggest this too but you will have to have a full Vauxhall
history for Vauxhall to want to contribute.

That's not correct. You do not need a full *Vauxhall* service
history. You just need to show the car has been serviced in
accordance with the Vauxhall Service Schedule, using genuine Vauxhall
parts. The service can be carried out by any competant teccy. There
is no mention in the warranty booklet that only franchised Vauxhall
dealers must be used to protect the warranty.
