Asking on behalf of my partners 04 1.6L Astra H. The cars been relatively reliable with no issues since it was purchased 2/3 years back but today we encountered a number of issues.

-Clutch down, gears grind when putting car into reverse unless engine is off
-Gearbox 1st and 2nd gear are very stiff to change to
-Car judders when setting off in 1st gear, revs need to be much higher to avoid a stall
-Clutch was relatively rigid when I've previously driven it, today it feels much softer and almost spongy

Currently I'm suspecting either the clutch is knackered and needs replacing which is what's causing the issues with gear changing, spongy clutch and juddering in 1st or the gearbox has an issue.

Either way, I'm not too sure what the issue would be specifically. Any thoughts would be appreciated, cheers.
