Engine control indicator lit then out. Astra M reg.

Astra 1.4 merit M reg.
Engine Control Indicator:
Warning indicator with engine symbol with spark inside.

Car has been working apparently normally for some time, but noticed tendency
for erratic engine speed control after motoway driving when stopping
abruptly e.g. at roundabout off slip road. No recent changes to engine.

1st trip today ok. Second trip Engine Control Indicator on for whole
journey.
Go out and re-start engine at home -lights breifly then goes out. (normal)

Astra handbook says indicates fault in system controlling: injection,
ignition, idling, overun fuel cut off.
Switches to emergency support program in event of fault. Consult dealer.

What am I looking at here, something I can replace myself?

Please advise.
