Don't go cheap.

Recently there was a discussion regarding a fair price for fitting a timing
belt kit and water pump on a Vectra, parts included.
Today, I was called to a Vectra which had just had all of them changed.
Unfortunately, the water pump was after-market, and a heap of doo-doo. The
plastic impeller had snapped and caused the car to severely overheat, all
within 10-miles of fitting. Hopefully, the headgasket has stood up to the
abuse, as a disclosing test revealed no break, however I would assume that
its life has been reduced somewhat.
If you do go after-market, please check the quality of the merchandise
rather than face an hefty bill for cutting corners.

Glad i took your advice in the end and paid a fair price for all authentic
    vauxhall parts!

It is, without doubt, the safest bet.

Just had mine done on my calibra by a mechanic i know, £75 cambelt and
waterpump. Had to wait a while for the work but he's self employed.
I would go to Vauxhall etc but places like that want £200 plus

  5. The post was about parts not labour.

Genuine parts are far better value now and it is not worth trying to
    economise on cheap pattern parts.

Assuming it's an Ecotec engine, if the idlers and tensioner were not
replaced, get ready for an expensive breakdown.

The few things I ordered from autovaux were indeed genuine vauxhall parts.

I've always used aftermarket waterpumps & never had a problem with them.
