Disconnect battery in Corsa - Will I lose the Radio?

Discussion in 'Corsa' started by Henry The Hedgehog, Jan 24, 2007.

  1. I want to put a new battery in a 52 plate Corsa. I do NOT have the radio
    code.

The radio does NOT ask for a code when I get in the car. I.e. it does
not seem to be set, it just says "enter code" briefly but without me
touching the radio it works fine.

Is it OK just to disconnect the battery and pop the new battery in or am
I going to run into trouble with the radio locking up?

    Many thanks

  2. PS what is the the digital gauge on the right of the display for? It
reads '- - - -' and has never read anything else since I've had the car.

Need more details as to model/age of Corsa and model of Radio. My current
2005 Corsa SXi can have the radio removed from the power with no ill
effects. It is coded to the ECU and will not work in any other Corsa
without intervention to the ECU. Regarding the dashes in the right of the
display, I have my outside temperature gauge there so it could be it is not
working correctly but my display is only 3 digits in length.

You will lose the radio almost straight away if the battery is
disconnected. The display will momentarily show "CODE" before working -
that is normal on a properly coded radio. If you can prove ownership
Vauxhall will give you a new PASS CARD with the radio code on it for a
    small charge.

Not sure what you mean to the right of the display. If you mean the
radio display it reads left to right > preset button selected > radio
channel (or the date if radio is off) with AS RDS EON [TP] underneath
plus top right of display is outside temperature plus a snow flake if
under 3 degrees outside temperature with current time top left.

    In message ,
What do you have to show Vx to prove ownership? Or is your credit card good
    enough id? (IYKWIM) ;-)

Probably go to your friendly local Vauxhall dealer armed with the
registration document plus car / purchase receipt, proof of your home
address or anything else that proves you haven't just pinched the radio
or bought it in the pub and for a suitable fee they should be able to
get you the code for the radio (assuming the unit came with the car
originally) from the car's chassis & registration number. Alternatively
most radio repair shops offer a decode facility to get you the code.
You can download the Corsa owners manual & the radio manual for free
from the Vauxhall website as Adobe pdf documents if you don't have
    these. http://www.vauxhall.co.uk/

  7. Thanks for replies, I've just found a little tip for when the radio code
isn't known and you want to change the battery.

Plug a 12 Volt battery into the cigar lighter socket before the battery
    is removed.
