I have just bought a 2001 Corsa for my wife. It has the in-built
cassette/radio stereo. She has asked me if I can put a cd player in.
What is the easiest way of doing this? Any help will be appreciated.

I have a 1998 Corsa, but I assume yours is the newer look model. Until
someone more knowledgable turns up, I can only ask if it's the same
kind of layout as mine - a Blaupunkt radio radio with four holes in
each corner (that actually contain small allen-key grub-screws)

This is easily done via a Vauxhall dealer. Most should be capable but I
can supply the stuff direct if you are having problems.

Your current stereo is a large 'double-DIN' unit so you will need to
remove that and fit an adaptor kit for a standard 'single-DIN' unit.

The adaptor costs £25 incl VAT. There is a colour choice but you will
probably just need the matt black one.

You can then fit any stereo into the car. Cheaper units will not power
steering wheel controls or show up on the multi-function display but
    this isn't a major issue.

We do a number of VDO units for £99 incl VAT although there is an even
    cheaper one.

The better ones have AUX inputs for mp3 players etc and can play mp3
    CDs

    I hope this helps.

is this still a viable option? I thought that the stereo serial number
was paired to the ECU these days, or was that a post 2001 introduction?

The earlier stereos have codes and most of the ebay ones are earlier
ones. Colours do vary so be careful though.

Newer ones need programming with Tech2 but it is not normally a
problem. Most dealers will charge 25 - 50 pounds though.

If the OP is happy with the bog standard CDR2005 unit then these have a
numeric security code. The newer CANBUS based audio systems in the 54
onwards Corsa (2005 an 2006 MY) are locked to the ECU and need dealer
intervention to facilitate reuse from one car to another.
