the years exposing the push buttons left and right. can i get the cover off
to relace it from a breakers without disturbing the airbag will the cover
just pull off or to excuse the pun will it all "blow up " in my face...?

Maybe better to get a new steering wheel compete from the breakers yard.

  3. Hi Dragon

.. Surely to get the steering wheel off i have to get access to the nut
which means removing the cover anyway?
    Back to my original question..
Can i get the cover off without disturbing the airbag?

The cover over the buttons is not available. It comes as part of the
steering wheel. Air bag will need to come off but that is only held on by 2
torx bolts anyway. You will need to power down the air bag system first -
battery disconnected for approx 5 mins - then there is the wire on the back
of the air bag - middle part of the plug pops out before the plug will pull
out the air bag. Make sure when you put it back together both parts click
in. One bolt holds the wheel on.Put the steering wheel straight before you
remove it and put the new one on in the same position. After putting the
battery on you will need to input the radio code and if you have elec
windows they will need resetting - just hold the button in the up position
    for 3 seconds.
Breakers is best bet then you can practice removal on the scrapper rather
    than your car.
If you have any doubts as to your ability to do the work on the air bag
safely DON'T DO IT . If it goes off cos you have done something wrong it
will hurt quite a bit !!!!
A garage should charge you no more than 30 mins labour and that is being
    kind to them.

I may not be the be the star you think I am - seen a Corsa B today with the
buttons as part of the air bag not the steering wheel so you will need a new
air bag - not a wheel. Easy to check - just take your airbag off and see if
the buttons are part of it. Sorry if I have led you astray.
