    Hi all

Been having hot starting problems with my year 2000 1.0 Corsa, today it was
in for investigation & found to have a defective speed sensor & after
replacing the speed sensor all seems to be okay again with the hot starting,
out of interest where exactly is the speed sensor & what is it's purpose?
    Many thanks in advance.

new one to me, though i am a relative novice on here just a few years.
might be either the Idle Control Valve, or the cam/crank sensor.
both rely on speed or control it - to work properly.

both could have been fixed DIY simply

This component is commonly known as the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) and
depending on the model is fitted either at the end of the speedo cable where
it enters the gearbox, or behind the instrument panel. The failure of the
VSS will often cause poor running and misfiring during deceleration, because
the injection system doesn't cut off if the VSS isn't transmitting the
speed. I wouldn't associate its failure with poor hot starting however. By
"investigation", do you mean the codes were pulled?

    Hi

Yes the codes were pulled by the Vauxhall dealer & the "speed sensor" their
words for the item replaced, whether it would have been a diy job wasn't an
option to me as it let me down 3 times on the way to work last week making
me late each time & 3 calls to the RAC each time resulted in me cancelling
the calls as it reset itself in anything from 40+ minutes long before the
    RAC would have arrived.
