just bought my wife a L-reg corsa 1.4 LS hi-torque automatic from the
auctions, but it didn't come with an owners manual.
can anyone tell me what the button on the side of the gear-shift centre
console does, it looks like a snowflake, the kind of symbol you get for
air-con, but it isn't fitted with air-con, but it does light up when you
    press it although nothing happens????.
    please help it's-doing-me-tits-in
    regards
    D

  3. Its for putting the gearbox into "winter mode" hence the snowflake symbol..
When pressed the car will move off in 3rd gear instead of first thereby
minimising wheelspin. It resets with the ignition or when pressed again,
    regards,
    Michael.

  4. If its a snowflake it'll be the "snow" mode for the gearbox, if its anything
like my Carlton it'll make the car pull away in a higher gear (3rd in my
case) so that the wheels are less likely to spin in slippery conditions.

In the Carlton's case there is another symbol on the dash which is an 'S' in
a cog which either tells you the gearbox is in "fun" mode or that the
    gearbox is gubbed.
