I have discovered a nasty oil leak on my wifes diesel corsa

It is coming from the Alternator ( brake servo pump I think ) none of
the pipes are leaking but the underside of the alternator is covered in
    oil .

is it possible that the O ring on the alternator has gone or do I need
    to change the whole unit

    Cheers

    oil ...alternator..o ring???

urm....theres nothing in the alternator to leak,.....

    i'd look elsewhere.

how about the usual, the bolts on the sump are loose.

i'd be inclined to clean the area, then it might give a better indication of
where it is leaking from & give a better idea of 'what' the fluid real is.

Early Corsa diesels have a servo pump on the back of the alternator and they
    are oil lubricated.
I guess either the pump has failed, a pipe is leaking or the main seal
between them has gone. Give it a clean off and start it up and watch to see
    where the leak starts.
