Corsa electric window problem

My son has a V reg Opel Corsa 1.2 with electric front windows. The passenger
side window has recently started to close in the wrong position. Press the
'Up' switch and it will shut fully and then it opens itself about four
inches and parks there in one continuous movement. If I nudge it half an
inch or so at a time with the switch I can get to stay closed, but the next
time the window is raised it stops in the incorrect position again.

I have tried the window reset detailed in the Haynes workshop manual but it
doesn't work since holding the switch in the 'Up' position causes the window
to open these few inches. Any ideas or suggestions?

  2. First make sure there is nothing preventing the free movement of the glass
in its rubber channel - i.e the rubber distorted and impeding movement.

Inch the window slowly to the top of its travel by repeatedly pressing up
for a short period of time. When fully up, then try pressing and holding up
    to 'program' the motor controller.

If it is still playing up, disconnect the electric window fuse (green 30A
fuse in the fuse box under the headlamp switch, fuse decriptions on the
inside of the lid) for 10 secs, then refit and try programming again.

Thanks for the reply. The window does move freely in the channel, and I have
sort of done the fuse removal bit already by disconnecting the battery for
30 seconds. If I inch it to the top as, soon as I press the switch to
reprogramme it the window moves to the partially open position.

What I can't figure out is why the motor changes direction and carries on
running when the window reaches the top. I think it's time for the door
    panel to come off :-(

Apologies if this is teaching granny to suck eggs, but as it hasn't yet been
mentioned in the thread, are you aware that the window is meant to drop a
couple of inches if it "feels" any resistance? It's a safety thing....

Makes me suspect so kind of gunge is preventing smooth travel right to the
    top, as Anthony suggests.

Thanks. It does reach the top before it drops, but I shall look more
carefully for resistance. Because it's an Opel, it also has the
'Continental' feature of 'One-touch closing', but the fault is apparent in
either mode. As you say, it clould be gunge, or it could be a fault in the
detection circuitry. After all, it must differentiate somehow between
reaching the top of the travel and trapping fingers an inch from the top of
the travel. What's the betting that the detection gubbins is all one unit
    with the motor :-(

place a piece of wood or WHY at the top of the frame about 1" in size
try the window, does it react the same?

Fixed!! I followed Martin's advice and tried it with a piece of wood in the
window gap and it behaved the same. I then removed the fuse as per Anthony
Britt's suggestion and that did the trick. I suppose disconnecting the
battery isn't the same as removing just the fuse.
Thanks to all who have helped.
