Connecting a base box/amp to my Vectra

I've got a 2000 SRI 2.0 Vectra and I'm going to fit a Bass Box in the boot
along with an amp. The bass box is 700W while the amp is 480W. I have all
the cables etc etc. The question is, where should I connect the cables for
power? I first thought of the cigarette lighter but that's too difficult and
tricky for someone like me. I then was told by another Vectra driver (who
had fitted one too) to run a cable from the battery. He said fitting it
involved some wielding under the bonnet and was rather difficult. Sounds
difficult again. Would it be easier to run a cable to the power at the back
of my radio/cd player? I'm a novice so dont be too technical with me....

    Cheers,

The safest/sanest way to do it would be to the battery as said - power
cables down one side of the car from the boot, signal cables down the
other side (to prevent interference). Power cable through the wiring
hole in the bulkhead to the engine compartment (usually a hole behind
the glovebox and goes into the fusebox - not sure with the Vectra?).

Might be worth having a read in the ICE and technical sections of:
    http://www.vvoc.com/forum/

Probably lots of useful information and tips in there.

a quick calc using ohms law equates to some 100Amps,
if you think the wiring will take it you're in for a shock and a burning
    smell!

run thick cables the length of the car as advised.............
    ..........and while pondering and thinking........
have a thought for your neighbours...few do

Don't forget - this is audio snake-oil, probably not "real" watts, more
    the PMPO rating.

However, to OP, yes, run cables to the battery, you will probably find
some part of the battery clamps that will take a screw-in lug connector,
should be piece of piss. DO NOT run cable to the back of stereo /
cigarette lighter - these circuits will not be rated / fused for the
sort of power you're talking about.
