    hope someone can help
I recently acquired a Vauxall/opel corsa with the engine management
    light constantly on.
    its a 2000 1.0 12V
The symtoms are: WHen cold it starts fine and for the first 2 minutes
or so if i dont press the accelerator will tick over (about 850rpm)
fine. then it starts to tick over erratically, going from 850 to 1000
and back to 850 and so on.
When i go to take off the engine is very lumpy at low revs (like it
missing)but accelerates ok.Moving along in slow traffic the ride is
very choppy so i have to keep the revs high to get anywhere. Anytime i
pull back on the trottle at cruising speed there is a dramatic
    reduction in power.
Then after about 10 minutes or so of driving or when the temp needle
reached normal op. temp , it just dies. It will not start again untill
it is fully cooled down. Could this be temp related or is it just some
    fail safe thingy kicking in.

Also, i noticed that when i turn the ignition off, the engine kinda
runs on for a fraction of a second before it stops. Is there a
    connection here.

Does any of this make any sense or will i have a better stab at trying
    to explain
Im a fairly competent (mechanical)Diy'er but these engine electronics
    do have me baffelled.

    Thanks for your help

well if the fault is such an easy one too you, then why dont you tell him
    what it is????
it do not mean that he is old or thick if he do not understand the fault,
at least he is willing to learn about such things, thus i would say thet he
    has knowledge = wisdom.

I think the first thing to do would be to read the fault-code. Anyone
know if you can paper-clip a Corsa?

    Try reading here http://www.topbuzz.co.uk/info/fault_codes/fault_codes.htm

for details of reading the fault codes, then report back

yes you are right i do not know alot about modern cars.
but how is it going to affect you giveing someone on here advise??
why do you hang around on here???
you dont want to help anyone, but maybe the truth is you do not know as
much as you think, so you make up a story about not helping people unless
    they pay you.

do you really think people on here are going to pay you for your advise? or
drive possibly hundreds of miles just so you can charge them for telling
what you think is wrong with their car??
i dont think so, most people on here know their knowledge or limited
knowledge. but they ask, and help, where possible.
this is all i have to say to a troll like you.
you may reply however you wish to this but i will not reply back, i have
    said my bit.

    <snip>

He's already there... a quick google revealed that "straight talker" is a
highly offensive troll with so little custom at his so-called garage that he
has time to play silly little rude-boy on the net.

He's landed on one of the few really friendly and helpful groups, so if we
all ignore him (which I should have done...!) he'll soon get bored and
    vanish.

my first port of call would be the idle control valve.
    easy to clean
    guides are on the net.

from there it will be a case of reading the fault codes.
then dealing with them as they require.
most of it should be easy .

Can somebody recommend a good scanner/reader resonably priced which

Oh for fucks sake you really are a retard.
As much as I hate to give free advice I'm going to give you lifeline.
I normally donate my odd change to the spastic box but I'm going to help you
    instead.
Don't waste your money on a reader for your limited knowledge and use.
Instead use a paperclip to pull the codes for free if you can work out how
    to lift the bonnet up.

The morons on this group make Forrest Gump look intelligent.
