    Hi

Anyone know how big a job it is to replace a CD30 with a CD30 MP3?

I've seen a few on ebay for sale without the required security code
supplied, make of that what you will!

If I had one with a security code is it simply a matter of plug in and enter
code or would as suggested on some ebay auctions would a Vaux dealership and
    tech2 still be required?

If I had one with no security code what would be required?

How much for a new one be from a dealership? (Extremely unlikely I'd go this
route though as I expect they are £ many 100's)

    TIA ... John

I think it still needs to be dealer programmed as the radio unit needs
to match the car ECU as the CD30 units are CANBUS linked.
I would expect it certainly would be in the £££ range - IMHO not
worth it for little added functionality. If you're going to replace it,
then go for a decent spec aftermarket audio head unit - all that will
be required is a fascia adapter to fill the hole left by the CD30 and a
harness adapter that connects the wiring from the car to the new head
unit. AFAIK, the only extra thing required with the newer cars fitted
with CD30, etc. stereos is to connect up a couple of power wires for
permanent voltage supply - these can go to the cigar lighter/power
    socket or other suitable source.

    <Googles for CANBUS> aren't things complicated now!

I'm not an audiophile and the current CD30 sounds fine to me, it would be
nice to be able to use MP3 disks though. Price of unit and having to pay a
dealer to programme would mean it all becomes a bit expensive for the
    benifits acheived.

Thanks for the reply .... John

The Vauxhall CDR2005 is around £250 so this will probably be more
expensive. Your local dealer's Parts Dept. can quote easily though.
They might even fit it free.

You might be lucky and not need a re-programme but unlikely. Dealers
will charge £20 or more for this if they haven't sold the CD player to
    you.

If you don't have a code that will cost a further £15-£20.

In both of the above cases I would want to see reasonable proof that
the stereo is kosher so watch out if you are buying an unknown one from
ebay. bear in mind that genuine ones are unlikely to be sold. most
people keep them to re-fit before sale. Can you prove it is not stolen
    or faulty?

The other alternative is as other poster but non-genuine ones in fascia
kits can look tacky. You will need a decent one if it is to use the
finger tip controls too. Most will not need the separate display and
that will stay blank when the unit is on.

  5. John,

you definitely need a Tech2. Radio is secured by a code (not enterable
locally). Additionally the display (BID or GID) is to be "married" with the
radio. AFAIK the radio must be correctly removed from the original car by
reseting its theft protection ("un-marriage"). I had some negative
experience with buying a GID from ebay, which was supposed to be correctly
    "un-married" but was not...

    Regards
