I have a problem with my 1994 Cavalier. The engine is a 2.0i. 16v. Ecotec
with (according to the book) a Siemens Sintic engine management system.
Recently whilst on the road there have been intermittent occurrences of the
engine revs suddenly reducing to tickover speed causing a sudden loss of
power. The engine revs pick up almost immediately and apart from a judder
the car continues on its merry way. This happened a few time over a
distance of ten miles on the M25 on Wednesday but I was unable to spot what
was happening. Last evening it occurred again on a road where I was able to
pull into a bus lane and could see that the engine revs were at tickover.
After a few jabs at the accelerator pedal the revs picked up and I was able
to continue. This was repeated about four times and then behaved itself for
the next seven miles and I was home. The engine never actually stopped. At
no time did the engine management system warning light come on.

I am taking it in to my usual garage to be checked on Monday but can anybody
    suggest a likely cause.

    Regards.

This worked for me, but I had a warning light, and after reading the info
given at the code web page, and in the Haynes Manuel, I think this posty may
have a little bother using the cods.

My reason for saying this is that I believe the fault must be around for 30
seconds or more to be logged as a fault. If not nothing will be logged, and
    so no code available.

    HOPE I'M WRONG ;-}
Is that the small device fitted to the main Accelerator Ventury, fitted on
the opposite side of the Air intake tube, just before the Air box??

Thanks to all for the help again

    Mike,

Thanks for that opinion. Is that an expensive job to fix ?

    Dave.
