Anybody know anything about car radios? I have a 95 Cavalier, which doesn't
have an 'accessories' position on the ignition switch. The radio does go off
when I stop and turn off the ignition after I've had the radio on whilst
driving. If I then want the radio on, I just push the volume control knob.
This is how it's supposed to work in this vehicle, according to the
handbook, (so obviously there's something 'special' in the radio circuitry).
My problem is, I now have a more modern radio, which requires a 'permanent'
live as well as a 'switched' live. how can I wire in this new radio, so I
can switch it on without the ignition being on also? There is both a
permanent and ignition-switched 12v supply on the radio wiring loom, which I
have connected to the new radio correctly, but the radio won't work unless
the ignition is full on. Can anybody help?

just find an unswitch permanent 12v supply, put the wire there.
if not run one from the battery but there should be one at the ign sw

When fitting replaceent radios there are adaptors available for specific
cars, which might help your problem. Pop into Halfords or your local audio
    shop and have a look.

if you want your radio to work regardless of ignition position (IE always
on) then simply use the permanent live feed on your existing radio wiring to
supply both positive terminals on your new radio.
    job done.

If you run a live directly to the radio
***** remember to fuse it ********
    with an appropriate fuse.

Don't vauxhall have the live & switched 12V feeds reversed compared to
most other manufacturers? would explain the symtpoms

yes they do, and some radio manufacturers will tell you to reverse these
wires before connecting, but i think this guy wanted the radio on all the
    time regardless of ignition position.
