Hi again, I'm starting to get the hang of this Omega thing.

Can anyone tell me if the CAR 400 radio/cassette has a mute input that
can be connected to a mobile phone? Also, can the phone be connected
    to use the car's speakers?

    TIA

Yes it can. I have a CAR 400 in my Astra with a Nokia full car kit for a
    3310.

The radio mutes and sound comes through the speakers, although this required
a relay to be added in the fuse box

In that case you've got exactly the system I've got. Do you have any
details of the relay and where it fits?

Any help would be appreciated ;-)

You can get wiring looms with the relay built in from autoleads. I had a
cark 91 fitted to a Hilux a few weeks back. The loom plugs in between the
ISO connectors on the stereo and gives the cerk91 the power it needs save
tapping into other wiring so its easier to uninstall/re-install in another
    car at a later date.

The relay plugs into the fusebox, but I will need to check which socket. All
other connections are via the pre-wired (ISO?) socket that is located above
    the passenger footwell.

I expected installation to be complicated, so I actually paid for it to be
installed professionally (and so the relay itself was supplied), but it
    appeared quite straightforward.

    Adrian,

Thanks for the info. Sorry I didn't respond earlier but I've been
having a bit of a problem with the PC.

Looks like a trip to the local Vauxhall dealer for a relay and some
time at the weekend to install.
