    Hi Group,

Currently concerning a 2004 ('53 plate) Meriva Enjoy 1.6 Easytronic.

Last week, after being parked for about 3 hours, went to star car and
the "engine shaped warning light" remained lit after starting the
engine. The handbook says that this indicates an emission fault, but
the car may be driven without problem, so I drove home. On the journey
I found that the Easytronic could not be selected to "manual" and no
manual selections could be made. When I got home the car stood for
about 40 minutes and then, when started the light remained on. After
lifting the bonnet and "wiggling" (technical term - sorry) a relay the
car was restarted and the light went out. Took a short drive around and
everything was fine - no warning lights and all gearbox functions
    (manual and auto) working fine.

Anyway, I am now considering obtaining a device to read the vehicle
codes and have seen some on eBay, but prices vary. I don't want to use
a laptop so a "stand-alone" device is what I am considering, so is
anyone prepared to recommend a low cost device suitable for reading the
    codes please?

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards,

    Roger.
