Blower fan intermittent

My 2000 Astra 2 litre Turbo Diesel's heater fan sometimes works and
sometimes dosent. Usually it works on the way to work OK but coming home it
comes on after about 20 miles. Ive taken the fan out but it worked fine as
soon as I did that. Does anyone know what can cause these symptoms.

switch, fuse, brushes? look for tranishing etc.
obviously a power feed problem

did you run it from another power source out when it was out of the car?

Its fine when its working but when its not its all dead. Does anyone know
what the symptoms of a faulty resistor are?
