Astra sport 1.8 16v engine noise question

Hi everyone,
got an M reg Astra. It's cut out on me once today while driving (was idling
ata set of traffic lights). then wen I got home, I decided to start the
engine again. I found that turning the engine off, waiting a few seconds
then turning the ignition on to just before starting the engine resulted in
a series of little knocking noises. The car still starts fine, no warnings
have come up on the display or computer. Anyone got any ideas what it might
be?

Oil level?

No oil warning lighs are displayed, and on checking he oil the level was
fine. Changed the oil/oil filter/air filter/plugs recently, about 2 weeks
ago, and it's done probably 700-800 miles since then without a problem.

Any other ideas?
