Astra Mk3 Replacement Aerial

Discussion in 'Astra' started by matthew.whitchurch, Feb 15, 2004.

  1. I just had the rear wing mounted aerial replaced on my wifes Astra by a
local garage. I gave up trying to do this myself as it basically involved
dismantling various panels and trim. The problem is that the radio reception
is just as bad if not worse with the replacement aerial than it was with the
broken stub of the original aerial.

I removed the small panel in front of the rear light assembly to check if
any wires etc had not been connected properly. The Coax and small braided
earth connection seemed to be connected properly, however I did notice that
there were a couple of wires terminating into an electrical block connector
that was not connected to anything.

I was wondering if this model of Astra has any powered amplification device
in the Coax line between the aerial and the radio and if this had not been
reconneced, hence the spare block connector, which may explain the poor
    reception.

    Any advice gratefully received.

The aerial should be easy to replace, though it does take a little wiggling
    to get in and out.
The electricla block is for connection to an electric aerial, i fitted one
to mine a few years ago, works nice.
