Astra Hot Ignition Key

Just lately the ignition in my Astra SXi 2002 has become difficult to
turn, and often (not always) the key is hot when removed after a
journey. Only the metal section is hot, not the plastic.

I did wonder if this had something to do with having the aircon on, but
it appears to be random. Admittedly we've had 30 degree temperatures
down here, but it doesn't seem right.

    Any suggestions?

Astra's and Zafiras suffer from ignition lock problems. It gets stiff and
one day the owner starts the car and doesn't realise that the key has stayed
in the crank position - result is one burnt out starter and one burnt out
ignition switch ( the elec bit on the back ). Take the barrel out and rub
the inside of the housing with some fine emery paper - I think the problem
is the barrel and housing expand at different rates so it all gets a bit
    tight.
