out of interest would like comments on others who have used bp
    ultimate diesel fuel.
my own experience is that you dont really gain on fuel consumption
    compared with the price differential.

On similar journeys have filled up with BP standard diesel at 49.3 mpg
filling up with bp ultimate diesel have done 54 mpg.

Good figures from an R reg Astra but the difference in price is:

BP standard = 96.9p per litre
BP ultimate = 99.9 per litre

I use robin whites calculator as it makes life simple, it calculates
    mpg from litres.

    http://www.robinwhite.fsnet.co.uk/conv/mpg.htm?miles=500&litres=42&Submit2=Calculate

When I look at the claims for BP ultimate I do wonder if I could use
an additive for the same effect, obviously I welcome the mpg increase,
especially on my old astra, to be fair the astra has been kept up to
with regular oil changes and has only done 81000 miles.

Can't give you a mileage count, but I spent a while running on UD, but
I noticed no difference. Back to Redex which I know for a fact gave me
an easier time in the cold mornings (which don't seem to be going
away). Can't really say at the moment. In a few weeks I'll reply to
this again and see if Redex has performed any miracles.

I can see no difference at all. My Astra averages 46 mpg irrespective of
what fuel or additive I put in it. Some claim their car runs smoother on
Ultimate, again it seems to make no difference to mine.

Well, as I said ages ago - I changed from BPUD back to RedEx and there
is a noticeable improvement - I haven't been taking note of mpg, but
the ride is definitely smoother than I had with UD. Being a 1998, it
sounds like an old taxi, unlike the newer diesels - I won't say that
noise has reduced any it's only on the lengthy journeys that the
change can be appreciated, 5 miles or so.

Most of my driving is at nightime or very early morning when the car
is tested to it's limits - only the past 3 or 4 weeks has the weather
been improving over the miserable cold that was Jan Feb March, so I
won't give credit to mother nature entirely.

Haven't had a service or anything since my original post. Unless that
boot up the backside accident had any affect :)

I have only just noticed oil treatment in the shops as well, I think
I'll give that a try next. My landlord just tried some in his petrol
Laguna and says it's made a hell of a difference to the sound of the
    car.
