Astra CDR500 stereo unresponsive - electrics problem?

Hi there. First post; please excuse any lack of etiquette.

My Astra's (2000 model year) stereo (Delco CDR500) has stopped working
suddenly. When you press the on/off button nothing happens; likewise if you
press and hold "eject" the CD doesn't come out.

Thinking it may have lost power and needs recoding, I've tried following the
instructions for that (ignition on; press on/off and "AS" together) but
without any joy - it still doesn't switch on.

The clock (and RDS indicator next to it) and temperature bits of the
dashboard panel remain lit (and show the correct time and temperature) even
when the key is removed from the ignition and the alarm set; the lighting on
the controls for the stereo (including the detachable bit and the steering
    wheel controls) also remains on.

I haven't done a thorough check but all other bits of the car seem to be OK
(i.e. it drives, heating system works etc.)

Is there anything that I can do (with limited experience) to fix this
myself, or should I take it to a dealer?

Thanks in advance for any advice,

    James

try taking the radio out and then putting it back in - check the fuse on the
back of the radio while you are at it

That worked a treat (the fuse seemed fine). Thanks for your help.

    James.
