    I've recently aquired a low-milage (50000) 1993 Vauxhaul Astra and this has
to go for it's MOT and a service.
The previous owner took good care of it but never replaced the cambelt, so
I'll be adding this to the normal list of things-to-do.

I would prefer taking it to a Vauxhaul agent, seeing you at least have some
degree of quality assurance that way, but would appreciate any
recommendations from the group. Also, is there anything else I should
specifically watch in a this model of car at this age/mileage ?

BTW: I live in Deptford, South-East London and work close to Potters Bar in
North London, so somewhere close to either would be nice.

    TIA

Try PNG Waltham Cross - just off J25 M25. Visit their website.

  3. I'll second that; I had a G reg Astra that was generally in good
condition - except for the rust on both wheel arches!

Luckily (?) it got knicked before it became a real problem, and I knew
exactly where to look on the next one ;-)

Ask a few dealers for a quote and ask for a deal bearing in mind the age.
They should all have a MasterFit type menu price that is competitive for
    your car.

They may not have a deal price on the cambelt but ask them all the same. If
they recommend that the rollers and tensioners are replaced at the same time
accept the extra cost but, again, try and do a deal!

Thanks a lot for all the suggestions.
I have made an appointment with agents in Croydon for this Thursday. They
quoted £345.00 all-in, whereas 3 other agents we're all mentioning figures
    in excess of £450 :O
I'll report back later, on how it went.
