    Greetings

I have one of these little beasties and for the last day or so the
alarm has began to sound off a few minutes after the car has been
    locked up.

Bought a copy of Haynes, however, that section seems to be
    mysteriously absent.

Wondering if the rain may have something to do with it, especially as
some toe rag broke the plastic surround to the drivers' door handle.
However this was done within a few days of the car first going on the
road and has never been a problem before.

Any advices would be gratefully received.

When it goes off is it just the siren going off or the indicators as well?
If just the siren the power sounders often go wrong.

if you have the internal motion sensors
try putting a bit of cling film over the receiver & transmitter.
    see if that cures it

When you lock the car does the led on the hazard switch flash straight away
(indicates fault or something open) or does it stay on for 10secs before
    flashing?
Estates has a sensor built into the rear boot side glass on both sides to
detect if it has been smashed. These can get damaged so the alarm thinks the
    window has been smashed.
If you got the fault and alarm codes read at a dealer it will tell you what
the last 9 causes of alarm activation were.
