astra 2.0 dti slow warm up

Discussion in 'Astra' started by Peter Andresen, Dec 11, 2003.

  1. the temp gauge takes about 7 - 8 miles of driving before it starts to move ,
I do get warm air coming through the heater after just a few minutes . I
tend to drive somewhat reserved until the engine is fully warm.....

    Seems Ok to me too...

If you drive with the blowers off (Difficult in this weather) and the
heater set to cold the engine will warm up a lot quicker.

The gauge reads the temperature of the engine so while your
redirecting some of that heat into the car it wont get as warm as
    quick.

Also if its blooding freezing outside it will take even longer.

In the summer (Whats that i hear you say) your engine should get
    warmer a lot quicker also.

Sounds about right to me. I get some warmth out of the Vectra (2.2DTi)
after a couple of hundred yards, unless it's -brass monkey weather and
then it takes quite a bit longer.

Me too - I don't think it's a problem at all. Remeber the heater matrix is
acting as an additional cooler for the circulating water!
My astra is on the M25 5mins after startup and takes considerably more time
than yours to warm up even at 70mph!
