Was driving home, and the water pump sheared off, causing the cam belt to
break, resulting in 16 bent valves. Joy

How bad is this to fix?? I have been quoted nearly £2000

Has this happened to anyone else??

Its a 1999 T plate with 43000 on the clock..........

It is, IMHO, a design flaw with eco-tec engines - for the cam belt to be
linked with a vulnerable component like the water pump.

That said, £2,000 seems a bit steep, phone around for a cheaper quote - and
    not just Vauxhall dealers.

It's a very common fault on edcotec engines. We have just repaired a Vectra,
and `the price came `to approx £800; this was including new guides. £2000
    seems rather high...shop around.
