    Hi all,

I've not long had my astra, its a 1998 S plate.("new" shape before the new
    astra)
I know it sounds thick, but how do i know if the engine is an Isuzi (or
whatever it is!) or a Vauxhall ?
Also, it starts fine first thing when the glowplug light goes out, but after
that it takes a while to re-start which is a pain on short journeys etc.
Anyone have any idea what the snag could be ?
It doesn't matter how long the engine has been running before it is stopped
and is reluctant to start again.

    Thanks for any replies !

Hi, you don't say what mileage your astra has done, but i would hazard a
guess that it's the valves. A diesel (as you may know) relies on
compression, and this compression could be lost through worn valves. This
may or may not be the problem in your case, it depends on your mileage.
    Hope this helps.

I tend to think that its not the valves to be honest because the engine runs
fine with no loss of power etc noticeable.
Surely a lack of compression would give other clues than just being a git to
    start without the glowplugs ?
