Anyone recognise this car part?

  1. I have a 1996 petrol Vauxhall Vectra and something has been bugging me for a
    while now.
There is a part on the car that I just can't work out what it's meant to do.

When you open the petrol cap this part is fitted right next to the hinge.
It is a grey tubed shape about two inches long, it looks like the size and
shape of half a biro pen
It has a Vauxhall stamp on it so I know it came with the car.

Can some clever person please put me out of my misery and tell me what it
    does?

Valve cap remover, as advertised by Jeremy Clarkson on top gear when the
    Veccie first came out

I always thought it was a gimmick but it does keep your fingers clean
    when checking the tyre pressures.

  4. I knew the clever chaps on this board would know the answer.
Strange how the on the vectra they give you all extra's that you never
    need.
The cup holders always seemed to me to be a waste of space to me.
Now a valve cap remover hidden behind the petrol cap.

It is for removing the caps on the wheels so you do not have to remove the
wheel trims when checking tyre pressures

Gimmicky maybe - but on a freezing winters morning (when we ever get one
that is) is easier to hold than the valve cap!

Valve cap remover, as advertised by Jeremy Clarkson on top gear when the
The other end to the valve cap remover (on the Zafira, anyway) is used to
activate (or deactivate) the rear passenger door child locks - seems to fit
nicely even if I am wrong :)

    So it is!

I always use the key blade myself though.
