Alternator or Battery?

My battery was low due to a starting problem I've now fixed, however it's
had more than enough time to recharge fully but the battery light still
comes on faintly now and then and on rare occasions it'll flash fully as i
    turn the engine off.
Which do you think it is?
    thanks

if the battery holds a charge from an external charger, then it will be the
    diode pack in the alternator.

Make sure you check the earthing strap that runs from the cluch bell housing
to the body of the car, I had a major starting problem caused by this strap.
