if the air bag warning is lit does that simply mean
the air bag system has a fault? or that its due for a periodic service?
if its got a fault, are there any common ones?
    thanks

If the light is on then the system has or has had a fault. If you crash the
bags won't go off if the light is on.

    common problem
normally caused by electrical connection spike from connecting something to
the fag lighter socket or WHY on the electrics.
If the light does not go out after a day or two
time for a tech 2 visit.

Could also mean the cars been in a smash - and repaired

If it was in a smash and the airbags went off - and consequently replaced,
the only way to get the airbag light to go off is the replace the seatbelt
    pre-tensioners. I had this brob on 2000 'V' astra 2.2 sri.

    Hope this helps

Quite often caused by a poor connection on the plug under the seat for the
seat belt pretensioner - seat gets moved by different drivers or when car is
vacuumed out and if plug is a bit loose it causes a higher resistance than
the air bag ecu expects so it puts the light on. Don't mess with the air bag
    system yourself.

    Hi,
I have just had the warning light come on ( and stay on ) after connecting
my trailer to a newly fitted towbar .
the point about a spike makes sense but what a pain... yet another excuse
for the garage to extract money and blood.
