    Any ideas appreciated...

SC303 radio-cassette unit (separate display) has just stopped working.
Won't turn on or do anything. Thought it might have 'crashed' or something,
so disconnected car battery, re-connected assuming it might work if I
entered security code etc - but nothing. Display only shows date & time,
    nothing makes the radio work.
Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas? Thanks in advance, people.

Try the fuse in the car if that's okay try the fuse at the back of the radio
    itself.

No main fuses blown. Now I have to find/borrow U-shaped tool things to get
    the radio unit out.........

Yep, bought some - £2.99 Motorworld - looks like a little 5amp fuse in the
back is blown. Had no idea about car radios & stuff, so thanks people for
being patient & helpful. Much appreciated )

Oh dear: fitted new 5A fuse in back re-inserted radio, turned on - didnt
get any radio display or ability to insert code number (dispaly stayed on
'clock') - just got loud high pitched buzzing which went away when you turn
off the unit. Tried several times - same thing. I suppose I take it to
Motorworld or somewhere for someone to test the radio unit?

there are three plugs wired into the back?
you have already checked them but are they connected correctly?

failing that it sounds as though its f***ed.
put a normal cd/radio in its place .. they will plug into two of the plugs,
shouldnt be able to wire them wrong as they only fit one way.

Thanks for being ready to help again.
The radio unit just slides into the box (called a 'cage'?).
There are 3 sets of flat pins, like plugs I guess. They seat in socket
    things at the back.
These feel sound to me, and there;s been no change in wiring at all - I've
    had the car from new.
So maybe it is f***ed (
Think a neighbour may have a spare radio to try but it nmay not have same
    plug things on the back.

I'll report back tomorrow. And thanks again.

most radio/cds these days have the same fittings. so unless it is old or it
originally came with a adaptor/s then it should fit straight in.

Anything like my 91 Cavalier, or the 95 Cavalier, the cage holds the two
ISO/DIN plugs such that when you insert the radio into the cage, the
plugs mate with the radio. If replacing, then you could (as I did) cut
the back/rear of the cage off (to allow the radio to sit freely) and
manually mate the connectors. They (mine) where pretty standard,
although I had to swap the red & yellow cores (switched live, permanent
    live) - common VX hack.

    -> >>>>>>>>>>> SC303 radio-cassette unit (separate display) has just
Even if this was the case, wouldn't the radio have malfunctioned 13 years
ago when new? The wiring's not been changed at all. (hmm, confused)

no confusion i didnt know that the plugs were fixed in place on the cage in
the 93-+ models.there fore not switchable. on the later models the three
plugs are loose and not held together.
