A mate has been told that he needs a new gearbox on his 50000 mile
Corsa. He was having gear selection problems and had the linkage
    replaced recently.
Anyone heared of gearbox failures or is the dealer lifting his leg?
Car has been regularly serviced by a major vauxhall dealer based in and
around Kings Lynn. The same one that's telling him he needs a new gearbox.

Might be worth asking another Vauxhall dealer to take a look without
mentioning the new gearbox diagnosis from the other dealer. Upgrading
& setting up correctly the new improved gear linkage (metal bushes not
plastic I believe) is common on Corsas but new gearboxes at 50,000
miles is not. I assume new linkage fixed problem initially so perhaps
something wasn't tightened up correctly. I also assume gearbox oil
level is up to the mark?.
