Anyone know the cost of a reconditioned manual 5-speed gearbox for a 2001 1.0 litre Corsa GLS? Also where I would be able to get
one in the Teesside area, maybe a garage to supply and fit?

Just been told by the RAC man that it looks like mine is shot, can't get the car into 1st or 2nd and if it is put into reverse it
goes forwards!! Had hoped it was going to be the linkage but the guy reckons that is ok.

    Many thanks,

    Chris

I still think this is a linkage problem as Vauxhall modified them for just
this fault - get a second opinion.

My Corsa is the same age and had the same problem this time last year. I set
up the linkage using the procedure in the "Haynes Book of Lies, Half-Truths
and Fairy Tales" and it's been fine since.(You'll find that until you do,
reverse is now 1st and 2nd lives in the "empty" slot opposite reverse)

    Thanks all for your replies,

Just had the car down at the garage and found out it is not the gearbox, thank god!

The guy said that the linkage had come out of alignment somehow and that is why I was getting 1st as reverse and 2 in that "empty
slot". He also said that there is slight wear on the bushes and that if I wanted to I could get the part replaced, but he thinks
that it could be fine now that it has all been lined up again. He said that the part is a dealer only part, possibly over £100.
Can anyone shed any light on this for me?

What would you do, leave it repaired as it is and just hope it doesn't go again or fork out for the new part?

    Thanks,

    Chris

I'd leave it, It's over 12 months since mine was fixed, and it's been fine
    since then.
