    Hi -

Firstly, excuse any slips from me if I don't follow netiquette - I'm
    new to this.

I've just bought an 2001 Astra Estate Club DTI with 93k on the clock.

It runs really well but I have a gap in its service history from
    70k-to-date.

I can see that the timing belt has not been changed up until the 70k
service, and following advice from another owner of an identical car,
wanted to play safe and get it replaced.

My employer offers competitively priced vehicle repairs and so I
e-mailed the garage giving them reg and car details.

The garage insists that they cannot tell which engine is in the car
from the details sent (reg, chassis no, variant, version), and
therefore cannot quote me a price until they know which parts they
    need.

I'm pretty sure that it is an Isuzu engiine, but maybe somebody on the
group can clear this up for me?

The car was first registered 30 07 2001.

Any help would be really appreciated.

It's possibly a "timing chain" hence won't need replacing........ ask the
    dealer. I have a 2001 2.0 DTI engine and it's a chain.

If it's a 2001 Club, then you have the 1.7DTI which is an Isuzu engine, and
    it is indeed a belt!

In 2000 onwards the only Diesel in the club model was a 1.7.

    Cheers Mr Me.

    I can't see any other branding around the engine other than Vauxhall;
not that I'd guess they'd advertise another manufacturer I guess - but
I'll tell my garage the spec you suggested.

    Thanks for your help.

The only place you can tell if it's an Isuzu is on a few of the belts, Isuzu
is printed e.g. the one that drive the Air con pump. However on a 51 reg
car there is a good chance that this has now faded.
