Earlier today after accelerating to overtake in my 1999 2.5 Vauxhall
Omega the engine management light came on and has been on ever since.
The engine is running smoothly with no loss of power. It starts, revs
freely, idles and stops just as sweetly as ever but the engine
management light is still on. I have made several trips today with no
problem except that the engine management light does not go out.

I am booking it in to my local vauxhall dealer this week to have it
checked, but in the meantime does any one have any idea what it can
    be.

    Thanks.........

1001 things. as long as you've done the obvious things (oil, water, steering
    fluid, brake fluid)
use the paperclip trick, it will give you a heads-up onthe fault code
TBH, i'd start to worry in a few days time if it is still on,
a dealer will always find something wrong if he sees the light is up or is
    told it has been on>

    Hulloooooo
    this is another site.........

    http://www.topbuzz1.carenthusiasts.co.uk/info/fault_codes/fault_codes.htm

or you can get to Mike's recommended site (without ads) at
    http://forums.delphiforums.com/n/ma...msg=28.1&prettyurl=/cartune/messages?msg=28.1

or this site for all the European Standardised codes..... and other useful
    info...
    http://www.onboarddiagnostics.co.uk/obdcodes.htm

Many Vectras are capable of giving flash codes, when a defective sensor is
    detected by the ECU.
The procedure is simple and straight forward:
Lift off the cover underneath the handle of the handbrake, and find the
16-pin connector, which is black in colour, and has a cover over it. remove
the black cover to expose the pin terminals. The only tool you will need is
a piece of wire, with one end grounded to chassis.
The next step is to connect the other end to pin 6.This accomplished, switch
the ignition on. Count the flashes from the engine malfunction light
    (orange).
    10 flashes = 0.
    1 flash = 1.
    2 flashes = 2, etc...
The flashes are in sets of 4. e.g.
    10 flashes, 1 flash, 7 flashes, 2 flashes = code 0172.Once the first code
has been received, the next code will begin to flash, until all codes have
been pulled, and then the sequence will repeat itself.
Once you have obtained the fault code, refer to the code meaning section on
    the above site.

Just got back from the Vx dealer.

Turns out that the Air flow plug had become disconnected.
