Discussion in 'General Motoring' started by Dominic Baker, Apr 20, 2006.

  1. When Idle my 1.7TDI 02 Plate seems to sometimes go mad.

Can take up to 1 hour for the problem to occur.

I can be sat at traffic light in neautal then hello Rev & speedo go up &
    down also engine revs.

I have also noticed when driving the fuel gage goes up & down.

The garage have done the following.

    New ECU
    Checked earthing
    Even reprogrammed.

My 51reg 1.7 DTI used to rev by itself, and also shudder if you put your
foot down at 1500rpm i.e. if you floored it at 30mph in 4th gear the car
would shudder and then accelerate. Vauxhalls put a new ECU on, changed the
injection pump and they never fixed it, it was like that until I sold the
car. Vauxhalls just said they all do it and they can not fix it.

  3. Well it's still under it 12 month warranty.

So maybe I will be able to get them to sort it before it is finished.

Good luck, mine was still under manufacturers warranty at the time, and they
    didn't have a clue!

  5. Well if this a known fault Vauxhall should admit it & pay up.

  6. Well

Vauxhall have admited that there is no cure & they are still working on it.

    I say not good enough.

I brought the car less the 12 months ago. They knew about & should have told
    me.

I feel like they have lied to me.

I asked because my old (soon to be resurrected!) 96 vectra with the 1.7
isuzu showed similar (but not identical) problems. turned out to be the
alternator. or rather the electrics in the unit that regulated voltage and
drove the rev counter. you could try swapping it, but thee are 2 problems
    with this.

1-its an expensive item to swap just on the offchance.

2-you have the worst kind of fault. an intermittant one.

Best suggestion I can come up with is ask locally if there are any
electrical people who can test it properly, and I dont just mean putting a
volt meter on it. you may have to take it off for this.

Thats all I can come up with.

Yep the old 1.7 Indirect Injection TD engine was an Isuzu which when the
alternator fails usually the Rev counter will either 1 - stop working or 2
    become intermittent.

However in the Astra the 1.7 DTI engine is basically the same engine which
is direct injection. I had 2001 1.7DTI astra which would rev by itself,
shudder at 1500rpm when you accelerated would miss at 1500rpm when in first,
Vauxhalls admitted it was a "common" issue, and they had no fix!

  11. Vauxhall don't want to know.

They have told me this is a one off & as it is not a current model nothing
they want to do about it.

They have said it only effects my car.

    Complete load of rubbish!

I was told by the service manager at Lookers in St. Helens that this was a
"feature" of the 1.7 DTi engine.

Well that's the million dollar question! :)

I am willing to send you my old registration number to supply to Vauxhalls,
to prove that this was happening to another car, mine went into Vauxhalls
several times so it should still be on there computer.

I presume your reply to address is your correct e-mail address?

If you know anyone else that will do the same then it's even better.

I want to throw everything I can at them.
