04 Astra - radio comes on on its own

Our 2004 "New" Astra (1.4 Petrol "Life") has a CD/Radio unit that has
taken to switching itself on spontaneously. First time we noticed it, it
happened with the car on the drive and locked (at 1am), but I think it
may have happened once with the vehicle on the move.

Is this a recognised fault on the unit? Or could it be something
"environmental" (like a signal from some remote control or wifi network).

I hesitate to hand it over to a dealer with an open cheque until I have
some idea of why it might be happening.

    Ideas please

surely this would be under warranty like the rest of the car? unless you've
done over 60k of course, but even then I'd still be tempted to take it to
the dealer .. after all mileage doesn't really have much effect on the
    radio.

sounds like a problem with the radio itself ... afaik there's no way of
powering it on apart from pressing the "on" button .. could be wrong of
course as I don't have a new shape astra :)

I've got a 1.8 SRI which has the same problem, it first manifested itself
last summer on a few occassions. I was going to call the dealer but it
seemed to cure itself and I forgot about it after that. The problem then
recurred just before Christmas and now seems to be getting more and more
    frequent.

Its booked into the dealers next Thursday, they did check to see if it was
under warranty when I booked it in so hopefully it will be covered - they
also said they would pop the unit out and check the serial number which kind
of suggests to me that is a problem they know about and they have a bad
batch of stereos, I could be wrong though.

I will do a follow up post next week.

It is a known fault this - your radio will be changed by your local dealer
under warranty - as a temp repair leave it set to Cd when you turn it off.

I can verify this, leaving a CD in set to CD does help.

Just got back from the dealer, the have confirmed the fault on the stereo
and they have ordered a new one - all covered by the warranty, no problems.
