Wife asked me to look at fluid in her 2000 zaf and it needs some. Its
probably just ATF oil, but can anyone confirm this? I look in the Vx book
and it just says "special Vauxhall fluid". Thats about as usefull to me as a
chocolate knob. Been hunting for my copy of Mr haynes's book of jokes, but
its well hidden. Anyone help please?

TIA

Mike

Zafira uses normal ATF ( Dexron II to be specific)

Zafiras do NOT use ATF, or any kind of Dexron in the power
steering, you di@khead.

The electro-hydraulic power steering system as fitted to Zafiras
(and Astra-Gs) uses a special green mineral hydraulic fluid

Do you mean LHM, as found in trick citroen suspension?

Sorry Mike, I don't know if the Shitroen LHM suspension fluid is
the same stuff as the Vauxhall electro-hydraulic power steering
fluid.

I DO know that the Dexron ATF fluids are complex synthetic lubes
which were developed for traditional US auto gearboxes. It also
managed to find a use in some "old skool" mechanical power
steering units.

ATF fluids are definately NOT used in any modern
electro-hydraulic power steering systems as fitted to Astra-G,
Astra-H, Zafira, Corsa-C, along with laterVW/Audi Servotronic
(electro-hydraulic) steering systems. They all use a green
mineral fluid, which may - or may not - be the same as the LHM.

The genuine Vauxhall stuff (part no: 90544116) costs £8.95 + VAT
retail, £7.61 + VAT trade for a litre.

Depending on how low it is, you may be able to get your local
MasterFit or Vauxhall service boys to top it up for free, if you
buy them a drink from the vending machine. Otherwise, £9 for a
bottle of Vauxhalls' finest will be much cheaper than £400 or so
to replace a f@*ked rack, all because some di@kead (who merely
guessed which fluid, and spouted off "ATF" without any prior
knowledge), told you to put the wrong stuff in it.

Rgds, Sean

systems.

Thank you for your kind comments. I will 'take it on board'.
As to hydraulic fluids, Citroen LHM is a special formulation for citroens
only so should not be used in any other steering systems( except rolls
royces maseratis etc which used Citroens high pressure hydraulic systems
under licence) .
